Public warned of scam using Galway Garda Station number

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Gardaí have urged the public to be vigilant after the Galway Garda Station phone number was used as part of a phone scam this week.

The 091 538000 Millstreet caller ID was used this week in a phone scam where the fraudster impersonated a Garda and attempted to obtain €1,000 in bitcoin.

Garda Sergeant Mick Walsh told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks it's the lastest in a series of scams where the public is being asked to provide personal details.

He stressed members of An Garda Síochána will make contact by post should it be necessary and will never ask for personal financial details over the phone:
