Plans for a biogas plant in Ballinasloe have been refused by county planners.
The project, led by CycleØ IE Limited, would be based on a site at Glenloughaun, several kilometres to the south of Ballinasloe town.
The anaerobic digestion facility prompted a high level of local submissions expressing opposition to the plans.
County planners have now refused permission - largely due to the unsuitability of the local road network and potential traffic concerns.
They also weren't satisfied about measures in place to deal with a potential slurry spill and subsequent impact on the local environment.
