Local residents in Renmore have won an appeal against a planned apartment block.
Shawder Ltd was granted permission by city planners earlier this year to knock an existing home on the Dublin Road, opposite Galweigans.
In place of the existing home would have been a four storey block consisting of ten apartments.
The plans noted that the fourth storey is stepped back from the main building line to lessen the visual impact of the building on the area.
But local residents still argued the scale and height of the block would be out of sync with existing homes.
The board of An Coimisiún Pleanála has now overruled its own inspector and has refused planning permission.
They held that although the density is not excessive, there is a significant overlooking issue affecting another property.
