Inland Fisheries Ireland is providing funding to seven fish barrier mitigation projects across Galway.
The national pot of €14m aims to restore the connectivity of rivers and waterways, improving natural pathways for migrating fish species.
The local projects receiving funding are in Derryclare, Glengowla, Clifden, Barna and Tonabrocky.
IFI spokesperson and engineer Michael McCauley says this will enhance biodiversity in waterways nationwide.
