Special meeting of City Council to discuss Shantalla helipad plans

A special meeting of Galway City Council is to be called to discuss controversial plans to build a heliport in Shantalla.

Green space has been used as a temporary helipad since 2013 - but the HSE now wants to make it permanent with a full heliport development.

Local residents are upset at the prospect of losing valuable green space - while the HSE says the helipad is vital for UHG.

Negotiations have been ongoing for some time on possible solutions, including finding an alternative solution to the loss of the park.
