The Taoiseach has agreed with a local TD that Transport Infrastructure Ireland is "over-reaching" by getting involved in local planning applications.
Raising the matter in the Dáil, Galway East TD Albert Dolan referenced young couples trying to build new homes beside their parents property, along national roads.
He said although the new homes would be using the same entrance as the existing house, they're still being refused planning because of the national road.
Fianna Fail Deputy Dolan described it as "lunacy" and asked what these people are supposed to do.
Taoiseach Michéal Martin said he was in agreement.
