University Hospital Galway has been the second-most overcrowded hospital this year.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation TrolleyWatch shows that University Hospital Limerick was the most overcrowded - with more than 22 thousand patients on trolleys in 2025.
At UHG, 11 thousand 630 patients were waiting on trolleys throughout the year - an increase of 647 people on the year before.
Meanwhile, there were 1,157 patients waiting for a bed at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe throughout 2025 - a drop of 465 patients on the year before.
Nationally, 114 thousand and 29 patients, including 1,248 children, were admitted to hospital without a bed in 2025.
INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha says the year has passed with an unacceptably high number of patients being treated on trolleys, and there needs to be a turning point in how healthcare staffing is planned and managed.
