UHG's Emergency Department has won a bronze award for sustainability excellence.
It took part in the Royal College of Emergency Medicine's "GreenED initiative", which aims to measure and reduce the environmental impact in a Casualty Department.
Some of the initiatives implemented over the past year include staff training, reducing unnecessary blood tests, improving recycling, transition to 100% recycled paper and rolling out waste-reduce.
UHG along with Mayo University Hospital are the first departments in the country to receive this prestigious award.
Specialist Registrar in Emergency Medicine - Dr Callum Swift - says the team has shown that even small changes make a major difference.
