University of Galway launches National Peatlands Centre of Excellence

University of Galway has launched an All-Ireland Peatlands Centre of Excellence.

The Centre will be based at the Ryan Institute at the University, and will focus on the protection of bogs worldwide.

The launch follows the digitisation of older maps of bogland, which includes surveys of more than 1 million acres of bog.
