University of Galway lecturer throws name in ring for Galway West by-election

University of Galway lecturer and community activist Sheila Garrity has thrown her name in the ring to contest the Galway West by-election.

The city resident was involved in Catherine Connolly's Presidential campaign, and is also Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education at DCU.

Sheila Garrity will officially launch her campaign in the city this weekend.

It brings to four the number of candidates confirmed for the by-election, which must be held by May

The others are Connemara Independent Councillor Tom Welby, Connemara Independent Ireland Councillor Noel Thomas and former City Councillor, Niall Murphy for the Green Party.
