UG research highlights dangers of children swallowing button batteries

New University of Galway research is drawing attention to the severe injuries that can be caused to children who swallow button batteries.

The study is the first of its kind in Ireland and highlights how children between six months and six years are at particular risk.

The study also revealed a spoonful of honey can delay the corrosive process which almost nine in ten people didn't know.

Professor Ivan Keogh says the design and marketing of button batteries is an ongoing challenge and action is required.
