A virtual treatment pathway has saved over 1,000 bed days in Galway University Hospitals since April of 2024.
The service allows patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to receive high-quality supervision from home using a phone app.
COPD is a common condition that mainly affects middle-aged or older adults who smoke or used to smoke.
Emma Burke, Nursing Lead for the COPD Virtual Care Pathway, says that the feedback from patients has been positive.
