Gort Golf Club's Sinead Collins was the winner of the Golf Ireland All-Ireland Bronze medal, played at Headfort Golf Club in County Meath yesterday. It was her third All-Ireland medal inside four weeks, having been part of the all-conquering Gort teams that won the Minor and Intermediate Foursomes national titles last month. For Sinead, it is a phenomenal achievement in her first year playing competitively, as she finished on 6 under par (net score), two shots clear of her nearest challenger, Carmel Rooney from Clones. Another Galway golfer, Ann Marie Walsh from Oughterard, finished in 4th place on 1 under par. The All-Ireland Bronze medal competition is restricted to women with a handicap index of 20.1 or higher at the start of the year who come through a club and regional qualifier. There were 10 players from Connacht in the All-Ireland final match in Headfort, with 30 from Leinster, 20 from Munster and 20 from Ulster.

Meanwhile, the Silver medal competition in Headfort yesterday was won by Veronica Kelly from Kilrea Golf Club, a 9-hole club in Derry. She finished on 4 under net, with Jacqui McGrath from Tuam Golf Club in 4th place on 1 under par. The Silver medal competition is for players with a handicap index up to and including 20.0 at the start of the year. The same number of qualifying places applied for each of the four provinces.
