World Championships selection

Galway City Harriers athlete Cillin Greene has earned a well-deserved selection for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, which starts on 13th September next. Greene will reunite with Sharlene Mawdsley in the Mixed Relay 4x400m squad, and alongside Jack Raftery, Conor Kelly, Sophie Becker and Rachel McCann. The GCH athlete has previously medalled with the Mixed Relay squad at the World Relays and is a proven international competitor.

Congratulations also go to Michelle Duggan (pictured), formerly of Craughwell AC (now UCD), who will travel as part of the Women's 4 x 400m squad along with Sharlene Mawdsley, Sophie Becker, Rachel McCann, and Cliodhna Manning. Duggan has excelled this season under coach Adam McMullen and has been in strong form ahead of the Worlds.

Claregalway 5k and 10k Results

The recent Clare River Harriers organised 2025 Claregalway Road Races, a 5k and 10k saw the honours go to Donal Farren of Letterkenny AC in 15.45 and Clodagh Egan, first lady home in 19.58. John Dolan was first home for GCH in the 10k running 34.36, with Siobhan Egan first lady in 40.34.

Fixtures

The Galway Primary Schools Cross Country Championships take place on 30th September and 7th October next. Open to all third to sixth class pupils, the first day is semi-final day, and this year it will take place in Galway Racecourse, with the finals in Renmore as usual. Entry is via Schools, and entry forms have been issued to all schools.

Craughwell AC host their 10k and 10 Mile races this Sunday, 7th September- limited entry still on Eventmaster.
