Galway Cross Country

Day Two of the Galway Cross Country event will be held Sunday next 12th October in Tuam at the Palace Grounds, with the Uneven Ages Juvenile races, and the Intermediate Men’s and Women’s Championships on the cards. The first race is off at 10 am. The final day of the Galway Primary Schools Cross Country Championships was held on Tuesday, October 7th, in Renmore, with 600 athletes competing across the four finals on the day. Winner of the 3rd and 4th Class Girls race was Emma O Malley of Annagh Hill NS, with team gold secured by Gaelscoil de hIde. The 3rd and 4th Class Boys title went the way of Dylan Devitt of Boleybeg NS, with a team win by Scoil Einde. In the 5th and 6th Class events, Jack Heneghan of Belclare won the Boys event, and Scoil Iognaid claimed team gold, with Kate Whiriskey of Ballyglass NS taking the Girls title, and Scoil Iosa Oranmore winning team gold. The top 15 in each race and the top 3 teams now progress to the Connacht Finals on 18th October next in Bushfield, Loughrea. All qualifiers are listed on www.popupraces.ie, and schools will also be notified. Organisers would like to thank GCH, Castlegar AC and Galway City Council for facilitating the event.

Road Racing

The Galway Bay series of races takes place in Salthill in the city this weekend, Saturday 11th October, having been postponed from last week due to Storm Amy. The Marathon starts at 8.30 am, the Half Marathon at 9.30 am, and the 10k at 11.30 am. Up to 4,000 athletes are expected across the three races to take part.
