Athenry Swans Fundraising For New Surface

This year, Athenry Swans Hockey Club faces the challenge of finding a new home.

Since their inception in 2021, they have been proudly based at Athenry Soccer Club in Moanbaun.

However, the upcoming resurfacing of the soccer astro pitch will make the new surface unsuitable for Hockey.

Thankfully, the Athenry Community Council has offered them a vital lifeline.

They have been provided with the opportunity to lease the currently unused tennis court area in Raheen.

To ensure the club can continue to thrive, they will need to transform this derelict space into a facility suitable for hockey and other sports.

The Club have launched this fundraising campaign to raise €25,000, which will go towards resurfacing the area with a 2G pitch – a surface that will support not only hockey but also benefit the wider community. A new pitch, created by and for the community will be a tremendous asset to Athenry as a whole.

John Stevens spoke to John Mulligan on Saturday Sport.
