Galway Senior Football Championship, Reports & Reaction

It was a busy weekend in the Galway Senior Football Championship as the Preliminary quarter finals and relegation semi-finals took place.

On Saturday, Oughterard got the better of Claregalway in a thrilling battle at Pearse Stadium. It finished 1-16 to 2-11 in favour of Oughterard. In Saturday's relegation semi-final at Tuam Stadium, only two points separated the sides as Annaghdown sent St. Michael's to a relegation final.

Sunday was action-packed with three Preliminary quarter finals and a relegation semi-final taking place. In the day's opening game, it took a penalty shootout to separate Monivea-Abbey and Bearna na Forbacha after a 1-14 to 1-14 draw. Monivea-Abbey progressed through the shootout, and Bearna na Forbacha will now contest the relegation final against St Michael's. Elsewhere, St. James, Dunmore MacHales and Killannin advanced to the quarter finals after wins against Milltown, Naomh Anna Leitir Mór and Mountbellew/Moylough, respectively.

The quarter-final draw was made on Sunday evening and resulted in the following fixtures:

Maigh Cuilinn v Oughterard
Salthill Knocknacarra v St. James'
Corofin v Dunmore MacHales
Tuam Stars v Killannin
All games will be played on the weekend ending 28th September.
