Creggs were crowned Connacht J1A League champions for the fourth successive year after a six-point victory over Dunmore in a fiercely contested final played at Dexcom Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It took 51 minutes for the first score of the game to arrive, Ronan Dowd kicking a penalty after Dunmore received a yellow card for a foul. 12 minutes later, Dunmore broke through for the first try of the afternoon as their forwards crashed over against the wind, and despite missing the conversion, had a two-point advantage, and held it until the 73rd minute when a crossfield kick from Dowd found Mark Purcell to get over for the crucial score. A missed conversion left a tense finish, but with two minutes remaining, Purcell kicked a penalty from halfway to crown Creggs champions again.
Creggs will look to complete a league and cup double when they take on Tuam in the Connacht Junior Cup Final in two weeks' time at Dexcom Stadium.
