Galway secured their first win of the National Hurling League Division 1A on Sunday afternoon with a 2-23 to 0-18 victory over Offaly in St.Brendan's Park, Birr.
Offaly lead 0-5 to 0-4 after 22 minutes, but points from Jason Rabbitte, Tom Monaghan and Cathal Mannion twice had the Tribesmen 0-9 to 0-6 up at the break. Two minutes into the second half, Mannion hit the net and further points from the Ahascragh-Fohenagh man, Stephen O'Halloran, and Tom Monaghan had Galway seven points ahead with 55 minutes played. Micheal Donoghue's side continued their dominance as Mannion continued to add on frees to compliment his scoring total of 1-8.
Offaly had a goal chance through Brian Duignan, but failed to convert, and it was Kinvara man Conor Whelan who put the game beyond doubt with a late goal.
Galway will host Waterford next Sunday (March 1st) at 2 pm.
