Galway hurler Cathal Mannion has been nominated for an All-Star award for his stellar performances for the Tribesmen this season.
Despite Galway's disappointing campaign ending in a quarter-final loss to Tipperary after a Leinster final defeat to Kilkenny, Mannion was still recognised for his outstanding efforts. The midfielder finished as the second top scorer with 2-67, with 1-21 of that coming from open play. The Ahascragh-Fohenagh man scored the most points in a single game this year, racking up 17 points against Wexford in the Leinster Championship, accounting for more than half of Galway's 1-29 tally that day.
The PwC released the All-Star nominations this morning. All-Ireland Champions Tipperary received the most nominations with 13, beaten finalists Cork had 11, Limerick seven, Kilkenny six, Dublin four, Waterford and Galway had one each.
John McGrath and Jake Morris of Tipperary and Brian Hayes of Cork were nominated for the PwC GAA/GPA Hurler of the Year, while Darragh McCarthy and Robert Doyle of Tipperary and Adam English of Limerick were nominated for Young Hurler of the Year.
Mannion and his fellow nominees will attend the gala black-tie event at the RDS on Friday November 7, which will be broadcast live on RTÉ.
