Round 6 of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division arrives on Saturday afternoon with a slate of six fixtures, including league leaders Galway United at home against Peamount United, while the defending champions Athlone Town head to the south-east against Wexford. All games are available to stream live on LOITV.
Galway United v Peamount United
Galway United head into Saturday’s game against Peamount United off the back of a statement 3-0 away win at Turner’s Cross last Saturday.
Emma Doherty’s hat-trick against Cork City proved to be the difference and was as complete an individual performance as you’d see in the league this season.
Galway United enter the game having won five out of their opening five league games sitting at the summit on 15 points and will be keen on adding another three this weekend.
Peamount United were held to a 1-1 draw by Sligo Rovers at Greenogue Park last weekend with Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s strike rescuing a point for the hosts. Peamount United sit in 6th after five games, on eight points.
Waterford v Athlone Town
The reigning Champions head to the RSC for what promises to be a tough afternoon for the Blues. Athlone Town arrive in fine form following their 2-0 win against Wexford last weekend with Maddie Gibson’s early strike and Dana Scheriff’s volley securing all three points for The Town.
Scheriff’s goalscoring form shows no sign of letting up as she is currently leading the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division goalscoring charts on seven. Waterford will need to find a way to disrupt an Athlone side who look at their best selves.
Sligo Rovers v Bohemians
Sligo Rovers return to base following an impressive 1-1 draw at Greenogue Park last Saturday with Sydney Stephens’s early goal forcing the Bit O’ Red onto the back foot before Ryan-Doyle equalised.
Bohemians arrive in Sligo disappointed by last week’s frustrating 1-0 loss to Treaty United, who undone the Bohs defence with a moment of magic between Katie Lawlee and Madison McGuane.
Bohs will be eager to bounce back against a Sligo Rovers side who will be confident after last week’s result.
Cork City v Shelbourne
Cork City return to Turner’s Cross looking for their first result of the season after suffering another defeat last weekend to the League leaders with Emma Doherty’s hat-trick being the difference between the two sides.
Shelbourne will be keen to get back to winning ways after letting a two-goal lead slip against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght last weekend where they lost 5-2.
The Reds will be without the suspended Leah Doyle in Cork after she was sent off against Shamrock Rovers.
Treaty United v Shamrock Rovers
Treaty United will be full of confidence against the Hoops after Madison McGuane’s goal secured an impressive 1-0 away win against Bohs in Dalymount last week.
Treaty United sit 5th in the league table at the moment and will be looking to keep pace with the top.
Shamrock Rovers will be hoping to build on their strong start to the season and will also be confident of a result following last week’s hectic 5-2 comeback win against Shelbourne.
The Hoops sit in fourth place behind Shelbourne, albeit with a game in hand.
Wexford v DLR Waves
Wexford will be keen to bounce back from last week’s 2-0 defeat against Athlone Town - they currently sit 7th in the league table on five points and will eye up all three against DLR on Saturday.
DLR Waves will travel to the south-east intent on adding to their points tally that included a 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers in Round 4 but will have been disappointed losing at home to Waterford last Sunday as they look to get back to winning ways on Saturday.
