Strong Galway influence as Mary I from Limerick qualify for Fitzgibbon Cup final

Mary Immaculate College from Limerick will take on their near neighbours UL in the final of the Fitzgibbon Cup on Friday week in Croke Park after a 0-31 to 2-16 extra-time victory over DCU last night in Dublin. Mary I had five Galway players in their starting team, goalkeeper Darragh Walsh from Turloughmore, full-back Eoin Lawless from Athenry and his brother Conor at wing-back, Donncha Campbell from Cappataggle at centre-back, and Dara Whelan from Turloughmore at midfield.

Shane Walsh, from Tullaroan in Kilkenny, led the scoring for the winners with 0-13 in total, 0-12 of which came from frees. DCU scored an injury-time equaliser to leave it 0-20 to 2-14 at full-time, but MICL outscored their opponents 0-11 to 0-2 in extra time.
