After a heartbreaking defeat that saw them plummet from 1st to 4th in their group in mere seconds in 2024, Oranmore-Maree avenged their one-point defeat with a 2-19 to 1-21 victory over Sarsfields in the opening round of the Forvis Mazars Senior Hurling Championship on Friday in Kenny Park, Athenry (8th August 2025).
Goals from Diarmuid Hanniffy and Ryan O'Donnell for the winners gave them a good start to Group 4, while Kevin Cooney got the Sarsfields goal.

Afterwards, Oranmore-Maree manager Brian O'Connell chatted to Galway Bay FM's Sean Walsh.
Elsewhere, an early Martin McMauns got Loughrea off to a 1-19 to 0-19 winning start against Kilconieron in Group 2 in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe. And Conor Cooney's penalty propelled St. Thomas' to a 1-28 to 0-15 victory over Gort in Group 1.
