By-election candidate and County Councillor Cillian Keane is calling for the introduction of a €150 home heating credit in the next budget.
He says the Government's recent €750m cost of living and fuel support package was significant.
But Councillor Keane believes more targeted support will be needed during the winter period for homes dependent on home heating oil, particularly in rural areas.
He says over 700 thousand homes are reliant on home heating oil - and for many, there is simply no realistic alternative.
Councillor Keane concludes by saying he'll be pushing for a targeted energy credit for lower and middle-income households in Budget 2027.
