Fine Gael Senator Sean Kyne says the Gaeltacht deserves an election debate entirely as Gaeilge.
He argues we have the biggest Gaeltacht area in the country in Connemara - and it's completely justifiable for TG4 and RnaG to host broadcast debates.
Both have confirmed they will not hold such debates due to a lack of fluency among the vast majority of candidates in Galway West.
But Senator Kyne says it's the everyday language for many households in Galway West, and they deserve to hear it used in a debate on the issues facing them.
He's now encouraging broadcasters to proceed with an Irish-language debate, to ensure meaningful engagement with Gaeltacht communities.
