Sinn Féin by-election candidate Mark Lohan claims our island communities are 'forced to fight for basics'.
He has been speaking with people on the Aran Islands, and says they're feeling left behind and ignored by Government.
Mark Lohan, who is a former city councillor, says the investment simply isn't there for island communities, and that needs to change.
He adds that we must properly resource our Irish-speaking communities if we're serious about protecting them.

Mark Lohan says that means putting funding into infrastructure, housing and local jobs.
