An appeal's been lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála over the refusal of 356 new apartments at Galway Harbour.
After years of work, the project led by the Land Development Agency was refused permission last month.
The Amharc Atalia development would offer 356 apartments across four blocks, up to 13 stories high, as well as a new public plaza, coastal walk, gardens and retail units.
Most apartments would be single and two-bed units delivered in a relatively even split, and all would be cost rental or social units.
City planners refused permission last month - because of nearby fuel storage tanks and the potential for a major accident.
This was previously flagged by the Health and Safety Authority as an unacceptable risk.
In a statement given in response to the decision, the LDA referenced the strategic importance of the site to the regeneration and development objectives for Galway.
In that context, it said, it's important that the basis and methodology used to determine this decision is fully understood.
The LDA added it has a robust track record of designing and planning developments, which are fully aligned to, and compliant with, all applicable policies, standards and guidelines.
It's now lodged an appeal with An Coimisiún Pleanála, with a decision due later this year.
