The Galway City Ring Road is being formally recognised as critical infrastructure.
It's one of the first projects being designated as such under the Government's new Critical Infrastructure Act.
It aims to accelerate delivery of infrastructure considered to be of national importance, and will block challenges by climate campaigners.
The long awaited Ring Road, which remains the subject of legal challenges, is one of 10 projects being designated in the first round.
Junior Minister for Transport and Galway East TD Sean Canney explains what this means in practice.
