Approval for new University of Galway School of Law at Nun's Island

The green light has been given for plans to transform an old mill at Nun's Island into a state-of-the-art School of Law.

The McLaughlin building, owned by University of Galway, was built in 1810 and is considered part of Galway's industrial heritage.

It was refurbished in the 1980s, but after 2011 it was no longer used for academic purposes.

It's a protected structure, and thus under these plans it will retain it's historical visual footprint with a modern twist.

The most striking visual change will be at the upper levels - with an eye-catching and modern extension with a glass and steel facade.
