Bacteria warning for swimmers at Grattan and Ballyloughane beaches

There's a warning of increased levels of bacteria at Grattan and Ballyloughane beaches due to heavy rainfall.

The City Council issued the prior warning, which is in place until this Wednesday, when sample results are due to be received.

It comes as World Ocean Day is being marked this morning - with concerns being raised that pollution fears are keeping swimmers out of the water.

Swimmers are advised to wash hands before handling food, and to avoid swimming with an open cut or wound, if you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.

Along with Galway, other areas such as in Dublin, Clare, Mayo, Donegal, Westmeath and Leitrim have also had warnings issued.
