Ballinasloe, and three areas of Galway city, are included in a new Government programme aimed at tackling deep disadvantage.
The initiative, known as SÍOL, will provide funding for projects in 15 of the country's most deprived areas - with over €30m set aside over the next four years.
It's designed to improve public spaces, support health and wellbeing and community safety, with access to education and training also listed as a priority.
In the county, Ballinasloe (urban and rural), Killure and Aughrim are included, while in the city, Wellpark, Mervue and Ballybane are included.
Ballinasloe Fine Gael Councillor Alan Harney says there's no shortage of projects that could use the funding.
Meanwhile, welcoming the inclusion of the three city areas, Galway West Fianna Fáil TD John Connolly says 'This targeted investment has the potential to make a real and lasting difference for communities in Galway.'
