Ballinasloe is included in a new Government programme aimed at tackling deep social disadvantage.
The initiative is known as SÍOL and will provide funding for projects in 15 of the country's most deprived areas.
Included is Ballinasloe urban and rural, as well as Killure and Aughrim.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Alan Harney says there's no shortage of projects that could use the funding.
