City Council begins plans for removal of fallen trees in Merlin Woods

Galway City Council is beginning to make plans for the removal of fallen trees in Merlin Woods.

Large parts of the woods suffered severe damaged in Storm Eowyn in January 2025.

Workshops will be held over the coming weeks, as plans to restore the woods progress.

The local authority is preparing an application to the Department of Food, Agriculture and the Marine to replant the area as a native woodland under the NeighbourWood Scheme.

Forestry Services Ireland Ltd will hold workshops with those who live nearby Merlin Woods over the coming weeks.

The aim is to get feedback on the project and to find out how local people would like to see Merlin Woods restored for people and for nature.

Those interested in getting involved are asked to email [email protected] by this Friday July 10th.
