Book of Condolence opens for Michael Lyster at County Hall

A book of condolence has opened at County Hall for legendary North Galway native RTE broadcaster Michael Lyster who died over the weekend at the age of 71.

The Barnaderg native started his journalism career in The Tuam Herald, and was best known for presenting The Sunday Game Live for over three decades.

His book is sharing the table with the book for world renowned singer Dolores Keane who was born just 25 kilometres away in Caherlistrane and who was laid to rest on Friday.

President Catherine Connolly has been leading the tributes to Michael Lyster,saying he was a familiar presence in almost every Irish household and will forever be synonymous with Gaelic Games coverage.

She added his warm presenting style and expert chairing of analysis was a central part of so many memorable matches over the years.

President Connolly has extended her deepest condolences to Michael's wife Anne, sons Mark and Jack and daughters Ellen and Rebecca, and his extended family, friends and colleagues.
