Call for 'protected emergency corridors' in Galway City

There's a call for protected emergency corridors to be trialed in Galway to ensure faster access for ambulances travelling to and from UHG.

Senator Sean Kyne says similar systems are in place in many other cities in Europe, and are proven to work well.

The basic principle is that key traffic junctions detect incoming emergency vehicles and automatically switch lights to clear traffic.

Fine Gael Senator Kyne thinks it's practical and a trial in Galway could be a blueprint for the country.
