Campaigners say motorways pointless when Galway commuter towns left without bypasses

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway campaign group says the construction of motorways such as the M17/M18 is pointless, when towns like Claregalway, Clarinbridge and Moycullen are not bypassed.

The Galway Cycling Campaign is backing concerns that motorway proposals associated with the National Planning Framework will damage regional communities.

The group says for a fraction of the money spent on the Gort to Tuam motorway, Claregalway, Clarinbridge and Moycullen could have been bypassed, with much greater benefits for Galway commuters.

Campaign spokesperson Oisín Ó Nidh says the money spent on motorways would be better spent elsewhere.
