Lands for just over 17,000 new homes in Galway City and County could be unlocked under an 862 million euro Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund
The first round of the fund sees Lands for 7,262 homes directly unlocked in Galway
Six projects in Galway County, and three in the City, will receive a total of €110 million euros
70 million will go towards County Galway projects, which include Raheen Road and Northern Relief Road in Athenry, with each of those delivering 800 residential units.
A bypass of Bearna would also allow for the delivery of approximately 800 homes, while upgrade to the Claregalway junction will unlock land for approximately 600 homes
Plans for Sun Street in Tuam, and George Street in Gort, will deliver around 400, and 234 homes in the first round of funding respectively.
Galway City projects in Ardaun, Castlegar and the Sandy Road will receive €40 million,
Infrastructure works in Ardaun will deliver 2,500 units, new junctions and road improvements in Castlegar will unlock space for nearly 600 homes, and the Sandy road realignment project, which will initially deliver space for 550 homes, has the potential to grow past nearly 4 thousand units delivered.
