Further testing is being undertaken by the council into the suspected contamination and a further notice will be issued on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Clifden beach still has poor quality bathing water according to a report published today by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Clifden received a 'poor' classification for the third year in a row, while the EPA acknowledges that Ballyloughane beach in the city has made improvements and is now 'sufficient'.
