City Councillor calls for legislation to allow short term hospital patients to vote

A City Councillor is calling for legislation which will allow short-term hospital patients to vote.

Councillor Mike Cubbard says presently, people who are hospitalised three weeks or less before polling days are unable to vote, while long term patients can.

He says he received a number of complaints from people unable to vote in last week's election due to being hospitalised only a few days before polling day.

The Independent Councillor has contacted the relevant Government department and plans to put forward a motion to rectify the situation at the next city council meeting.
