City councillors call for review and enforcement ahead of further speed limit changes

Speed limit changes, as part of the national review, are to be presented to Galway city councillors this month, ahead of a public consultation.

The 30km/hour speed limit zones within Galway City are to be extended to all public roads within housing estates, and all roads around school entrances.

First introduced in 2023, the 30km limit will also apply to on roads classed as having more vulnerable road users, such as Ballyloughane and Silverstrand

The specifics for the by-laws are due to be finalised by the end of October, with an implementation deadline set for the end of March next year.
