Clean up begins after Storm Ashley hits country

Clean-up operations are underway this morning after Storm Ashley hit the country yesterday.

Galway was one of the worst hit areas, with gusts reaching highs of around 130km/h early in the evening.

Some roads are still closed, including a section of Salthill Upper/Threadneedle Road, parts of the prom and along Grattan Road from Seapoint to Claddagh Quay.

Motorists are being advised to take care this morning, with trees down in some areas, and lights out of action due to power outages.

Elsewhere, 29 thousand ESB customers were without power as of last night, and some might not be switched back on until this lunchtime.

While Dublin Airport was forced to cancel 60 flights as a result of the storm, and other flight landings had to be aborted.
