Councillors hear significant progress being made with reopening Dunguaire Castle in Kinvara

A County Council meeting has heard that significant progress is being made in relation to the reopening of Dunguaire Castle in Kinvara.

The castle has been closed for years now and is understood to need a multi-million euro investment to bring it up to standard.

Galway County Council is willing to purchase and renovate the privately-owned castle, but cannot afford to do so from its own budget.

The Council has confirmed the OPW and National Parks and Wildlife Services are not in a position to provide funding, so it's continuing to engage with other State bodies.

In response to a motion from Councillor Geraldine Donohue, the Chief Executive said progress is constantly being made.
