Galway County Council is 'not blocking' a delayed wastewater treatment scheme for Clarinbridge and Craughwell.

That was the message from County Hall this week, with concerns consistently being raised over the funding and other conditions required.

The estimated cost is just under €30m - Government funding of €27.3m has been secured, while the county council have now approved a €2.6m loan.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Martina Kinnane says Galway County Council cannot shoulder the burden of what is essentially the role of Uisce Eireann to carry out the project.

She says the almost four-year delay should not have been allowed to happen as projects like these are crucial in boosting housing supply
