Dáil hears call for measures to tackle lack of GPs in East Galway

The Dáil has heard that something has to be done to address the lack of GP capacity in the East Galway area.

Deputy Albert Dolan says more and more practices are now declaring they cannot take on any more patients.

He said we're investing so much in our young doctors from primary school through to third level, but they're leaving the country.

Fianna Fail Deputy Dolan wondered what Government is planning to retain doctors and ensure rural communities have adequate capacity.

Tánaiste Simon Harris said efforts have been made - like revisions of GP contracts and staffing assistance - but acknowledged there's more that could be done.
