Galway Bay fm newsroom - A freight hub is to be developed in Athenry as part of a €500m development plan for how Ireland's freight network will be developed over the next 20 years.

The newly published Irish Rail 2040 Rail Freight Strategy outlines how tactical freight terminals will be established at key locations on the existing network.

The plan will support over 8 thousand new jobs and aims to encourage balanced development in regional areas, strengthen rural economies, and reduce congestion on the road network.
