Galway County Councillors back motion urging Finance Minister to abolish USC

Galway County Councillors have backed a motion urging the Minister for Finance to abolish the USC.

The tax was brought into effect as an emergency temporary measure around 15 years ago during the financial crash.

Councillor Evelyn Parsons brought forward the motion, and while it passed, Fine Gael Councillor Jimmy McClearn warned that a replacement tax may be need if the USC is gone

Independent Ballinasloe Cllr Parsons told Sarah Slevin that it's time to review the tax and plan for its phased abolishment
