Pat McDonagh says proposed tourist tax "out of touch" in current climate

Ireland has become a very expensive place for holidaymakers and a proposed new tourist tax would only make us even less competitive.

That's according to Supermacs boss Pat McDonagh, as a motion is going before the Seanad this week to empower local authorities to introduce such taxes.

Galway City Council has expressed its desire to become a pilot city, saying even just €1 per bed per night could raise €2m for local services.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Pat McDonagh said proposing a tourist tax in the current climate seems very out of touch.
