Galway to get specialist trauma unit under new government plan

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A specialist trauma centre is to be established in Galway under new plans to be announced by the government today.

Health Minister Simon Harris is to present a report to Cabinet which recommends the establishment of trauma facilities in Dublin, Cork, and Galway.

Recently, concerns were raised over the lack of such a centre in Galway to deal with patients severely injured in incidents such as crashes and assaults.

Galway West Deputy Hildegarde Naughton says Galway's specialist trauma unit will be equipped to manage all major trauma incidents, with the exception of traumatic brain injury.
