Galway named one of worst places for learner drivers

Galway has been named one of the worst places in the country to be a learner driver.

It's been ranked fifth in a study by 123.ie Insurance - behind Dublin, Monaghan, Cork and Carlow.

This study compiled rankings based on various RSA and CSO statistics.

They include number of test centres and tests carried out, pass rates, and waiting times, as well as the number of fatal collisions and how many drivers have road convictions.

In Galway, the pass rate is 59 percent, learners face an average test wait of 19 weeks, and over 27 thousand drivers have penalty points.

The report found wait times in Galway remain relatively long, despite steady demand and 13 thousand tests carried out last year.

The worst place in Ireland for a learner driver is Dublin - which has an average wait time of 35 weeks and a pass rate of 47 percent.
