Galway public urged to report wild honey bee sightings

The Galway public are being encouraged to report sightings of wild honey bees and hives in their area.

It's part of ongoing research at the University of Galway, to map wild colonies and develop a greater understanding of wild bees.

To date, 190 wild colonies have been mapped in Galway, but researchers believe there are likely to be many more.

Professor Grace McCormack works at the Galway Honey Bee Research Centre at University of Galway.

Speaking to Galway Talks, she explained why it's so important to know about wild beehives and unregistered beekeepers.
