A Galway based Senator has criticised the State Examinations Commission for not implementing accommodations for students with dyslexia and dyscalculia.
Fianna Fáil Senator and former secondary school teacher Shane Curley has demanded that the SEC extends the time given to these students in their exams, who he believes are put at an unfair disadvantage.
In 2009, experts suggested to the SEC that longer exam times would help these students perform to their potential and not be unfairly punished.
The call comes as the SEC has announced that it's running a pilot programme to test these changes but Senator Curley is calling for the changes to be implemented on a permanent basis
